EVENT RE-CAP: “Bringing Love Back To The City”

Happy Monday!

I hope that you all had a very eventful and fun weekend. As promised, I am going to share with you all the wonderful experience I had yesterday during the inaugural “Bringing Love Back to The City” speed dating event that took place in Dupont Circle at Ping Pong Dim Sum.

This was definitely not your typical dating event — you were encouraged to release all inhibitions about what you thought it meant to speed date, and really enjoy the art of conversation. As a single lady living in The District, I was rather excited to step out of the usual chit-chat with guys at lounges and bars and try something new. Upon arrival to the intimate private room, each guest was  greeted with a delicious cocktail and hor d’doeurves, engaging in small chat before the official event began. Promptly at 2 PM, event hostesses Simona Noce and Portia Wills announced that we would begin what we had come to do — speed date!

‘Talk About It Tuesday’: 3 Things To Do When Your Phone Is Stolen

Because the dude that took my phone looked just like this, (-___-)

Nothing like being a millennial without her cell phone.

Story time! So, I’m on the Red Line Metro early Sunday morning, making my way back from a pretty tame night in Adams Morgan — minding my own business. As soon as the train arrives to a stop right before mine, I’m holding my phone in my hand normally. I had just finished tweeting a song lyric (Chemistry by Allegra Dolores to be exact), when all of a sudden, a young man with a black hoodie comes from behind me and straight SWIPES my phone. When your personal space is violated, you’re completely immobile and your body doesn’t react as quickly as it should. But my immediate reaction was laughter rather than rage and obscene language. Why? Because I had clearly set myself up for that to happen.

Interning in DC This Summer? 5 Things You Should Know

Happy Monday Everyone!

It’s that time again. For those of us that living in The District, we know that the spring time brings more than just cherry blossoms, annoying tourists and sidewalks blanketed with cicada carcasses. It is also the precursor to one of our favorite little nuisances: the summer intern invasion. Now before I became a budding young professional living in The District according to Thought Catalog, I myself was apart of the Summer 2011 intern invasion. Still on my high of being a college grad, I came down to D.C. with an open mind–and two years later I’m still here. I’ve learned to navigate The District in all of it’s awesomeness during my time here, and I think it’s important for newbies to have a little bit of insight on how we get down here. So for all of you college students and (recent grads) that will soon be making your way to The District for three months of summer bliss, this one is for you 🙂

Congratulations, and welcome to Washington, D.C.! Whether you will be interning on The Hill or starting your first job, you are definitely in for a great experience. The summer is a great time to frolic and be free, but also an even better time to explore and really get a sense of the city. Now don’t get it twisted — D.C. is not always ‘turnt up’ as it will be May-August, so if you end up staying here after Labor Day, don’t say I didn’t warn you.  And since you probably won’t get an official welcome to the city from a fellow ambitious 20-something like myself, I wanted to take the time and drop  five pearls of wisdom on what you should expect as you prepare to embark on this exciting journey:
